After the Gold Rush was over the good citizens of Garrotte decided to rename the town to something more respectable sounding like “Groveland”. Since that time Groveland has been known as a Gateway Community to Yosemite National Park. Highway 120 runs through Groveland leading countless tourists from all over the world to the northern entrance of the Park. Just outside of town is located what some call the best kept secret of the Sierras, the planned community of Pine Mountain Lake.
Pine Mountain Lake was originally developed by Boise Cascade back in the 1970s, and building still continues to this day. There are 3626 lots and approximately 3050 homes spread out on 3368 acres. The lake has 210 surface acres and was created by a 115 foot high clay core earthen dam. There are three beaches and a lake lodge located around the lake in various locations. A marina with 110 boat slips and fishing docks designated for fishing. Other amenities include:
All of this combined with a community that is teaming with clubs and group activities for every interest imaginable makes it one of the truly great places to either live or vacation. But don’t take our word for it, come to Groveland and let us show you around and decide for yourself. You will be glad you did.
